WHAT I OFFER

What You Need to Know

Here is a quick breakdown of what you need to know before your session with Kathleen. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Individual Counselling

Individual Counselling is offered in-person and virtually. Initially, I will conduct an intake assessment and then we will decide on the goals of counselling. The therapeutic techniques used are specific to each individuals’ needs. Clients can typically expect to do things like explore thoughts and feelings, and learn new skills and strategies for coping. Clients may also be provided with useful information and handouts.

Reiki Energy Healing

Reiki is a Japanese healing art. It involves gentle, safe, therapeutic touch where the practitioner’s hands are placed along the client’s energy centers on the body or just above. This technique moves life force energy through the client’s body, enabling relaxation, and healing the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels. A reiki session can help to alleviate stress and tension, and allow you to flow in a state of greater ease and wellness.

How to Prepare for a Reiki Session:
  • Do not wear any jewelry

  • Stay well hydrated before and after the session

  • You may bring your own yoga mat if you prefer

Guided Breathwork

Breathwork is an ancient healing practice that has been supported by scientific understanding. Conscious breathing allows you to connect to your body, release tension and move through emotions, reset your nervous system, and find a deeper connection and understanding of yourself and your life. Breathwork can be deeply healing and transformational. Kathleen will be guiding you through a breath pattern called Conscious Connected Breathing in an individual session. Breathwork sessions take 90 minutes.

How to Prepare for a Breathwork Session:
  • Complete intake and waiver forms (emailed after booking)

  • Do not use alcohol or substances (other than those prescribed by a physician) 48 hours before your session

  • Wear loose, comfy clothing and no jewelry

Types of therapeutic interventions may include:

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

CBT is used for a variety of mental health issues and managing challenging life situations. The goal is to restructure the way a person views themselves and the world around them. It tends to be structured and time-limited. CBT focuses on changing dysfunctional thinking to more realistic and positive perception, and responding more effectively. It is often used in combination with other types of therapy.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Enhanced

Based on CBT, CBT-E is the primary treatment for all forms of eating disorders. Treatment is highly individualized depending on each client. The CBT-E model is four stages and includes: assessment and psychoeducation, addressing the factors that contribute to the maintenance of the mental disorder (ie. emotional distress, anxiety, traumatic experiences, etc.), and reorientation to the future.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

A treatment model typically used for patients with chronic mental health issues which focuses on stabilizing behaviour and regulating emotions. Individuals learn to balance both acceptance (of the present moment or experience) and change (to make positive changes and move forward into the future). It is a therapeutic process that is individualized to each person, and involves the following: establishing safety and stabilizing behaviour, skills training, emotional-regulation, training in “radical self-acceptance,” and mindfulness training.

Emotion Focused Therapy

Based in the perspective that emotions and emotional responses are central to who we are and how we behave. The goals are to increase awareness of emotions, regulate and cope with those emotions, and to transform responses from negative to positive.

Mindfulness Training

Helps individuals to increase awareness and acceptance of the self and present experience; to balance the “emotional mind” and the “analytical mind” simultaneously.

As Well As:

  • Radical Self Acceptance

  • Information about eating disorders for loved ones

  • Bibliotherapy (reading material)

  • Body-awareness training

  • Self-empowerment training

  • Relaxation skills
